Make This Friday the 13th a Lucky One with These 13 Steps
We all know the scary legend behind Friday the 13th so let's turn this one into a lucky one. We're sharing our team's top 13 steps towards happy, healthy skin— WOOHOO!
1. "PATIENCE" - Jen, Product Development
New skincare products are always exciting, but often times we don't give them enough of a chance! Most skin cells take 6-8 weeks to turn over, so if you don’t see the results right away, don't rule out the product quite yet. Give yourself at least 6 weeks to monitor changes. Your skin (and wallet) will thank you for it!
2. "ROUTINE" - Dr. Raj, Founder
Consistency in your routine will lead to results, and we all know that practice makes perfect. We all live busy lives, but it's important to make time to be consistent. I always recommend at a minimum using a high quality cleanser, serum, and moisturizer.
3. "HYDRATE" - Julia, CEO
Water is crucial for your insides and out! Green tea is an incredible antioxidant to help soothe inflammation and give you healthy skin. Instead of coffee, I try to sub in tea or hot water with lemon at least a few times a week!
4. "SPF" - Andi, Director of Operations
We all know Sunscreen is crucial. The sun can damage your skin even when you're inside of your car! We're still developing our SPF here at TULA, but until we have our own, we recommend an SPF of 30 or more that protects against both UVA and UVB rays.
5. "RELAX" - Donnie, Director of eCommerce
Stress is sometimes inevitable, but it takes a huge toll on almost every part of your body, including your skin. Stress can cause breakouts and excess oil because it increases the body's production of hormones. I try to keep my stress in check by making time for the gym, yoga, or even just a few minutes of meditation.
6. "SLEEP!" - Emily, Social Media
Getting your beauty sleep is not a myth! It is proven that poor sleepers (less than 5 hours of sleep each night) are more likely to have fine lines, uneven pigmentation, and reduced skin elasticity. So try to steer clear of too many late nights!
7. "FILL UP" (healthy fats & veggies) - Donnie, Director of eCommerce
8. "SHAMPOO SMART" - Brianna, Social MediaA diet filled with healthy fats, fruits, and vegetables can make a dramatic difference to your skin. Omega-3 fatty acids are also beneficial to the skin and reduce inflammation while retaining the skin's moisture. Salmon, walnuts, soybeans, and flaxseeds are a few of the many foods full of omega-3!
9. "GET YOUR GOOD BACTERIA" - Dr. Raj, FounderSome hair products are filled with oils and waxes that may run onto your face while showering or sweating, causing clogs in your pores and/or creating acne. Try avoiding products that contain beeswax, microcrystalline wax, or mineral oil and look for water-based formulas instead.
Your skin and gut health are closely linked together, making probiotics, those good-for-you bacteria, a huge difference for both. Eating high quality probiotics such as kimchi, sauerkraut, and yogurt are great for your gut. As far as skincare, TULA products are packed with probiotics that help strengthen the natural skin defenses and restore elasticity.
10. "MOISTURIZE "- Julia, CEO
Moisturizers are incredibly important for all skin types. To avoid dry, dull looking skin, apply moisturizer after you cleanse in the morning and evening.
11. "EXFOLIATE" - Jen, Product Development
To avoid flaky skin, invest in a good scrub or gentle exfoliating mask. By exfoliating the skin about twice a week, your skin will be free of dead skin cells and clogged pores.
12. "CLEAN YOUR PHONE" - Andi, Director of Operations
Ever think of how much bacteria your phone screen contains after constantly touching it, holding it up against your ear, and having it in your purse? Quite a bit! Keeping it clean is an effective and underrated way of improving your skin. At the end of the day, just be sure to clean the screen with an antibacterial wipe.
13. "EXERCISE" - Brianna, Social Media
Exercising goes behind just toning the tummy! It increases the circulation in your body, helping send nutrients to your skin more easily. It also reduces stress hormones that may cause the constriction of blood flow and, in turn, helps give your skin a natural glow.
