5 Common Skincare Myths, Debunked!

5 Common Skincare Myths, Debunked!

Skincare can be confusing. With new products hitting the shelves every week and viral beauty trends taking over social media, it’s hard to stay focused on what really works and what doesn’t. That’s why we’ve rounded up some of the most common myths about skincare to set the record straight! Here are five common skincare myths, debunked:

MYTH 1: Drinking more water is the only lifestyle must for luminous skin.

Don’t get us wrong, staying hydrated is a crucial part of your skincare routine. But sadly, chugging water isn’t going to be an instant hack for good skin - it’s just one part of the equation to start glowing from within. Your skin is a result of everything you do to your body - so drinking water is great, but you should eat well, exercise regularly, and make health-conscious decisions to see the skin you want.

To increase the overall condition and appearance of your skin, try our Daily Probiotic and Skin Healthy Complex. Not only is this daily capsule good for your digestive health, but it’ll also help improve the way your skin looks. It’s a simple and easy way to help your skin look healthy, hydrated, and young.

MYTH 2: You can fix a blemish quickly by slathering on products.

We get it, acne is the worst. As soon as you see a blemish start to form, your impulse is probably to attack your skin with as many anti-acne, skin-clearing masks and spot treatments as possible. Don’t do this! Reacting with too many products will just irritate your skin more. Keeping your acne under control is all about taking preventative measures. To help problematic skin your skincare routine should focus on keeping your skin cleansed, toned, and hydrated.

Getting luminous, clear skin doesn’t happen overnight. Instead, create a routine that’s gentle yet effective to see the results you dream of. Cleanse your skin with a gentle formula like our Purifying Cleanser, and follow with a balancing toner like our Pro-Glycolic 10% pH Resurfacing Gel. Together, these products will gently clean your skin without overdrying it (which is a common culprit of blemishes) and replenish it with probiotics that will leave your skin looking nourished and healthy.

When you do get a blemish, treat it once a day with your favorite spot treatment and always follow up with a hydrating moisturizer to make sure the skin is hydrated, which will help prevent future blemishes. Also try exfoliating two to three times per week. Using a mask like our Exfoliating Treatment Mask will get rid of the dead skin and dirt that clogs your pores. By exfoliating regularly you’ll also get smooth looking skin as an added bonus!

MYTH 3: If your skin is oily, you don’t need to worry about using moisturizer.

Wrong! In fact, those with oily skin the ones that need moisturizer the most. If you find that your skin is oily, your skin may be working overtime to produce oils because you lack moisture. Once you find the perfect formula, it’ll work to balance your skin tone so that you can get a more balanced looking complexion.

One of our best selling products is the Hydrating Day & Night Cream - this silky formula is light enough to use during the day, but powerful enough to hydrate your skin overnight, too. Once you start using it, your skin will start looking balanced in no time.

MYTH 4: Your skin can get used to products after using them for a while.

Contrary to popular belief, your skin can’t really get used to products. If you’ve nailed down a skincare routine that works for you, there’s no sense in changing it! While it is a good idea to alter your skincare routine based on the different seasons of the year (like we talked about here), you can also have a basic routine you always fall back on.

You can build a basic skincare routine that consists of cleansing, toning, moisturizing, and your skin will be healthy and well taken care of. Once you find products that work for you, stick with it! Consistency is key when it comes to getting the skin you desire.

MYTH 5: There’s no such thing as having skin that’s too clean.

Actually, there is such a thing as over cleansing your skin! Every day, your skin produces natural oils that are vital for your overall skin health. Cleansing your skin at least once a day is necessary to remove the dirt and excess oil that can cause redness, irritation, and breakouts. But if you start to cleanse too often, you’ll start to strip your skin of the important oils and nutrients it produces throughout the day. Over-cleansing can lead to over-drying, and over-drying can lead to blemishes, dry patches, and redness. If you like to clean your skin twice a day, make sure your cleanser is gentle. Using an anti-acne or other specialized formula can dry out your skin over time, especially if you use it twice a day.

We recommend using our Purifying Cleanser or Kefir Replenishing Cleansing Oil - both have formulas that are designed to clear away the “bad” stuff while not damaging your skin by taking away the “good” stuff.

Now that you’re a skincare expert, put this knowledge to use! Give your skin some extra TLC and you’ll have a complexion that’s #allthegoals in no time!
